During this elective (a 2-week workshop project), I and 21 other students from the Willem de Kooning Academy got the opportunity to create a book filled with collages regarding the theme Shape the Future. What would the future look like according to our imagination and the scraps of paper available to us from magazines and newspapers? During the elective, every participant was asked to make up to 30 collages and to select the top 10. The original collages were made in color, but the final version of the book was printed in black and white and eventually published by Hybrid Crocodile, based in The Hague. The collages I created touched on various themes like religion, climate change, authoritarian animal kingdoms, public transportation, and even polygamous relationships with humans as well as aquatic life.
